WhatsApp is at it again with the rollout of WhatsApp Plus. A new paid subscription tier with more customizable features for a select group of iPhone users. WhatsApp’s basic messaging and calling functions, which are still free for all users, are unaffected by the extra plan. WABetaInfo claims that the subscription plan includes additional app icons, premium stickers, personalized themes, and other options for customizing the software. Some users of the most recent stable version of WhatsApp for iOS can now use WhatsApp Plus.
WhatsApp Plus is compatible with WhatsApp for iOS version 26.17.74, according to an article on the blog post by WABetaInfo. Only a small number of users are currently able to access the service, which is reportedly being rolled out gradually.
It is important to understand the features, dangers, implications, and significance of this application before downloading or even using it, if need be.
In the coming weeks, it is anticipated that WhatsApp will become available to additional accounts. By accessing the app’s Settings section, users can determine if they are eligible for the subscription or not.
Additionally, according to the feature tracker, WhatsApp Plus is only accessible for the regular WhatsApp Messenger app and not for the WhatsApp Business version. If the subscription isn’t cancelled at least 24 hours before the next subscription date, it will automatically renew on a monthly basis. Through the App Store, users can control or terminate the plan. A free trial that lasts for a month or, in certain situations, a week may also be offered to certain qualified users.
In many European areas, WhatsApp Plus is priced at EUR 2.49 (about Rs. 274/about $2.93) per month. It is anticipated that the cost of the subscription will vary depending on the region, and consumers in various nations may pay different monthly subscription fees. As the premium plan expands into other markets, WhatsApp may also change the price.
Currently, the new WhatsApp Plus subscription comes with six premium features that emphasize organization and customization. Exclusive sticker sets with animated overlay effects are available to subscribers. Users of the regular version of WhatsApp can still view these stickers when they are shared in chats, but only subscribers who pay can download the packs from the sticker shop.
Users can customize the app with 14 different app icons and 18 accent colours with the subscription. Vibrant blue, royal purple, forest green, burgundy, and golden yellow are among the hues that users can select from, and the chosen colour is used across the interface. The other app icons have more stylized and minimalist designs.
A number of organizational functions are also expanded by WhatsApp Plus. In a custom chat list, subscribers can apply the same theme, notification tone, and ringtone to all discussions and pin up to 20 chats instead of just three. There are ten unique ringtone choices that are preloaded, which are Flutter, Tempo, Ripple, Quest, Drum, Murmur, Flux, Meadow, Bubble, and Carnival, and they are also included in the plan.
The article also claims that WhatsApp intends to improve WhatsApp Plus with additional premium features in upcoming upgrades. WhatsApp’s normal messaging, voice calling, and video calling functions will remain fully available to every user who decides not to join at no additional cost.
It is also important to note that while using WhatsApp Plus, it poses several serious risks.
Firstly, because WhatsApp strictly prohibits unauthorized third-party clients, users may face temporary or permanent account bans.
Secondly, unlike official App Store apps, modified clients skip Apple’s security vetting and may contain malware, spyware, or adware.
Thirdly, while official WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption, third-party forks cannot guarantee that private messages, media, and data remain secure from interception or external storage.
And lastly, installing such mods on iOS often requires risky steps like jailbreaking or using unofficial enterprise certificates, which compromises overall device security.
For advanced features without security risks, use these official alternatives: WhatsApp Business, which is available free on the iOS App Store and provides quick replies, automated greetings, and catalogue tools; and official sticker maker apps approved by the Apple App Store, which let you create and import custom sticker packs directly into the standard WhatsApp client.
