Redbubble, Bonfire, Spring, Fourthwall, and other online retailers are facing a greater challenge as Amazon unveiled a new technology earlier today, Monday, that lets anyone create items using artificial intelligence. The business said that users may now use AI prompts to build new products with the Shopping app’s Alexa feature.
This means that Amazon has officially added a generative AI tool to its Shopping app, letting customers design and order custom merchandise using simple text prompts. Built directly into Amazon’s existing Merch on Demand print-on-demand infrastructure, this update brings custom product creation to everyday shoppers with no professional design skills required.
By doing this, anyone may transform their concept into a design that can be used on products offered by Amazon’s print-on-demand service, Merch on Demand, including clothing, tumblers, and more.
Amazon had suggested that the service could come in handy for printing one-off designs, such as T-shirts for a family reunion, a personalized gift, or products featuring a portrait of your dog. Of course, artists whose work has been used to train AI models may be less excited about this kind of idea.
Once the user provides the prompt for the design, Amazon takes care of production and Prime-shipped delivery, the company says.
The change lowers the barrier for customers who wish to transform ideas into tangible things but lack traditional design abilities by integrating AI-generated merchandise straight into Amazon’s Shopping app.
Although print-on-demand companies have traditionally catered to artists and different organizations, Amazon’s new functionality may make AI-designed products just another way to shop.
According to Amazon, the choice is only accessible in the United States at this time. Customers just have to pay for the products themselves, as using the function is free.
Customers can utilize the function by searching for “customize” in the search box and selecting the drop-down menu or by tapping the Alexa icon located in the lower right corner of the Amazon Shopping app. Users will be able to communicate their idea to Alexa and see the design produced as a result of this. After that, users can make modifications to the design by entering them in or clicking on suggested actions. The product can be added to each person’s Amazon shopping cart when results are shared with friends and relatives.
T-shirts, V-necks, long-sleeve shirts, polo shirts, quarter zips, jerseys, hoodies, sweatshirts, tank tops, raglans, tumblers, and water bottles are all included in the complete list of items that are supported.
Members of the press and other outlets had claimed that Amazon is now a serious rival to compete with custom apparel sites like Redbubble, Bonfire, Spring, and Fourthwall. Unlike creator-only dashboards, Amazon’s tool lives inside the regular consumer shopping flow, making custom merch easy to access for casual gifts, family occasions, or personalized items.
The feature is currently rolling out to users in the United States. To access the tool, open your Amazon Shopping mobile app and tap the Alexa icon, or search for “customize” in the main search bar.
