TikTok users around the world now have more flexibility in how they engage with the music they discover on the platform. The ByteDance-owned short-form video giant has officially added YouTube Music as a supported destination in its growing Add to Music App feature, allowing users to seamlessly save songs from TikTok videos directly to their preferred streaming service.

Originally launched in November 2023 in the United States and the United Kingdom, this feature initially supported Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. TikTok significantly expanded its availability in February 2024, rolling the feature out to over 160 countries, a move that was seen as a major step in solidifying the app’s role as a music discovery engine.

Over time, Deezer and SoundCloud were also added, further increasing the appeal of the platform to music enthusiasts and industry stakeholders alike.

With this latest update, users can now save tracks to YouTube Music with just a tap. When watching a TikTok video that features music, a new “Add Song” button appears next to the track name, located just below the clip description. Once tapped, the track is automatically saved to the user’s TikTok Songs playlist on YouTube Music, assuming that service is set as the default.

To configure a default service, users can go to the “Music” tab in the TikTok Settings menu and choose their preferred streaming platform. This setting ensures that future song saves are sent directly to the chosen service without the need for additional confirmation.

“With hundreds of millions of track saves converting into billions of streams on music streaming services, Add to Music App continues to deliver real results for the music industry,”
said Tracy Gardner, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok.

TikTok’s impact on the music industry has been profound. The app has become a key promotional tool for artists, with viral clips regularly catapulting both new and classic tracks up the global streaming charts. By deepening its integration with major music platforms, TikTok is further reinforcing its role not just as a content hub, but also as a driver of music consumption.

For artists and labels, this enhancement offers a new avenue to drive conversions and sustained listener engagement on platforms beyond TikTok. And for users, it represents an even smoother transition from casual listening to active playlisting.

With YouTube Music now in the mix, TikTok continues to blur the lines between content consumption and music streaming — giving fans a richer, more connected music experience.
