Google’s AI Mode Update Now Shows Visual Results

Google’s most recent AI Mode update facilitates picture searches with ambiguous references and descriptions as it revealed on Tuesday a new feature in AI Mode that enhances the current text-based experience with visual exploring features. Through the use of visual results in AI Mode, the Mountain View-based tech giant claims that this feature will allow users to search for and find something specific that they are unable to articulate in words. After that, they can ask follow-up questions regarding what’s on their screen or use prompts to further refine the search results.

The new function allows users to ask questions in a conversational manner, and AI Mode will provide several graphic responses. Google gives the example of asking for “maximalist design inspiration for your bedroom.” In addition to the standard text results, visual results that reflect the tone of what they’re searching for will be produced.

They will be able to learn more about the outcome by clicking on the link that is included in each image. By requesting more options with bolder prints or darker tones, they may use natural language to fine-tune the outcomes.

Shopping experiences will soon include a comparable feature. Google claims that it will provide visual shopping results, removing the need to sort through filters in order to obtain the required result. AI Mode will offer a pertinent collection of purchasing possibilities for visual exploration, saving users from having to hunt through many sorting filters to locate the exact brand, colour, or style of the goods they’re looking for.

Users can use search term such as “barrel jeans that aren’t too baggy” to look for a pair of jeans, for instance. They can also request a different rise and colour, or extra ankle length, to improve the first outcome.

Google also claimed that because this experience is multimodal, image-based prompts are also supported. Google Search with Lens and Image search tools, along with the multimodal and linguistic capabilities of Gemini 2.5 large language model (LLM), underpin AI Mode’s visual capabilities. This makes it possible for AI Mode to perform a thorough examination of the picture, identifying minute details and supporting items, for example.

The AI function uses a query fan-out technique to deconstruct questions. According to the business, it divides them into subtopics and conducts several concurrent searches for each of them. According to Google, this enables AI Mode’s new feature to comprehend the entire visual context and subtleties of the user-inputted natural language query, producing visually relevant results.

In order to obtain visually similar results, users can also begin their search by uploading a reference image or taking a picture. They can then refine their search by combining images and descriptions. Finding pictures for interior design inspiration is only one example of how the conversational search update may be used for general visual exploration.

It may take a few days for the new features to show up because the AI Mode visual search upgrade is only being made available to US customers in English this week. In order to improve visual context and provide more nuanced image search results, Google claims that the update expands on Google Search with Lens and Image search as well as Gemini 2.5’s sophisticated multimodal and language capabilities. AI Mode can now identify minute features and secondary items in photos.

This week, users in the US will be able to explore the visual features in AI Mode in English. Its availability in other languages or countries is unknown.
