Google Chrome To Debut Support for ARM64 Linux This Spring

For many years, those who use Linux computers with Arm processors have mostly relied on Chromium or other open-source alternatives to browse. Although those are fantastic, they frequently lack the “secret sauce” that gives the standard Google Chrome experience its smoothness. As of right now, Google has formally declared that Chrome on ARM64 Linux will debut in Q2 2026.

This means that Chrome will be accessible for ARM64 Linux computers in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, according to an official announcement from Google. This version comes after Windows on Arm was introduced in 2024 and Apple Silicon Macs in 2020.

This action comes after Chrome and Windows successfully switched to ARM-powered macOS systems in 2020 and 2024, respectively. Google is making sure that the next generation of powerful Linux devices can access the whole Google ecosystem with this last piece of the puzzle.

The complete Linux Google experience comes with the release of an official ARM64 version, Linux users may now receive the functionality they want without having to go through extra steps or utilize specialized tools. Users can access complete cross-device continuity by logging into their Google Account, which includes:

  • Syncing: From your Mac or PC to your ARM-Linux computer, bookmarks, history, and open tabs will accompany you.
  • Extensions: The Chrome Web Store can be accessed directly without the requirement for developer workarounds.
  • The built-in tools are one-click webpage translation and smooth Google Pay integration for autofill, which are examples of built-in features.

Prioritizing security Google is also incorporating its robust security measures into this new design. Enhanced Protection in Safe Browsing, which employs AI to offer real-time defense against malware and phishing, will be a feature in the ARM64 version of Chrome.

Furthermore, the Google Password Manager will be completely integrated, enabling users to create and synchronize complicated passwords while actively keeping an eye out for compromised accounts and data breaches.

An alliance with NVIDIA, according to Google, is working with NVIDIA to bring Chrome to the DGX Spark, a move that emphasizes the “high performance” aim of this release. NVIDIA’s Grace Blackwell architecture powers this little AI supercomputer, and as a result of this collaboration, Chrome will be immediately accessible through NVIDIA’s software package management system.

The ARM64 version of Chrome for different Linux distributions will be made available to everyone else by Google via the official Chrome download page.

Why this is important is that the ARM computing revolution is no longer limited to Windows, MacBooks, Chromebooks, and mobile devices. A top-notch, safe browser is essential as high-performance ARM CPUs find their way into the Linux desktop and server environment. Google is recognizing that the future of Linux hardware is becoming more and more arm-shaped by integrating Chrome into this architecture.

The release window is between April and June of 2026 in which it will be available.

For the complete ecosystem support, which is in contrast to the open-source Chromium browser, this native version will have proprietary features like Google Pay integration, Widevine DRM for HD streaming (Netflix/Spotify), and Google account sync (bookmarks/passwords).

For Debian and RPM-based distributions, Google will offer official binaries that can be downloaded straight from the official Chrome download page.

The hardware collaboration Google and Nvidia are working together to simplify Chrome’s installation on the DGX Spark, a small AI supercomputer, and the impact, which had been previously relying on Chromium or emulation, users of Raspberry Pi boards, Pinebook notebooks, and Mac devices running Asahi Linux have long demanded this change.

The announcement, which was made public on the Chromium Blog, represents a significant turning point in Google’s dedication to the ARM ecosystem.
