WhatsApp Tests Privacy Feature on Android to Restrict Sharing

Meta’s WhatsApp  has been adding a ton of features to make talking more enjoyable and appealing for all users. 

It has been reported that WhatsApp is working on a new feature for its Android app that will increase the privacy of talks in order to ensure improved security. A feature tracker claims that users may be able to prevent the recipient’s gallery from automatically saving the media they share with others using the Advanced Chat Privacy feature of the Meta-owned instant- messaging network to safeguard users’ private conversations on Android. Additionally, it is said to have privacy-focused limitations including preventing the export of whole conversation history and other possible enhancements.

Also WABetaInfo claims WhatsApp privacy upgrade would provide users more control over their chats by restricting the sharing of files and messages. An important option called “advanced chat privacy,” which stops undesired messages from being shared, will be included in the upgrade.

The Advanced Chat Privacy feature is being developed by Meta Platforms’ instant messaging client and will be available in a future version of the app, as stated by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. It was observed in the Android application version 2.25.10.4 of WhatsApp Beta. According to reports, the function is optional and may be turned on or off by going to the applications settings. The recipient who gets picture or video files during a chat will not be able to save them automatically to their device’s library after it has been enabled for the sender.

Users of WhatsApp who possess Meta will also be able to prevent media from being automatically saved to their phone’s gallery.

According to screenshots that the feature tracker supplied, a pop-up that reads, “Can’t auto-save media,” would show up if the receiver attempts to save the material.

You have enabled advanced chat privacy, which stops media from automatically storing to your device’s library.

Although this capability is already accessible for communications that vanish, it will now be used more frequently.

Users may also prevent the export of whole chat histories, which is another significant improvement, particularly if the messages come from users who have previously activated the privacy setting.

Furthermore, according to WABetaInfo, it may also include further privacy-focused limitations. The export of conversation history, including those containing messages from individual users who have enabled the Advanced conversation Privacy feature, may be prohibited by WhatsApp. It would also prevent users from engaging with WhatsApp’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, while they are in the same discussion.

Notably, WhatsApp offers a similar feature when vanishing messages are enabled, but this in-development feature may also add the same degree of privacy to regular chats.

It protects private discussions and helps you prevent unauthorized message sharing.

Also claims by WABetaInfo states that this new feature is still being developed and isn’t accessible to beta testers who have signed up through the Google Play Beta program. It should be mentioned, though, that not all of the new features that the instant messaging platform may be developing for different platforms will be made available to the general public.

The most recent option won’t prevent messages from being forwarded because WhatsApp still aims to provide a user experience that is easy to use. However, participants in the same chat will not be able to interact with Meta AI during that conversation if an advanced privacy option is activated.

The firm has shown that restricting screenshots is ineffective since third-party programs, such as WhatsApp Web, still allow users to take screenshots.
